Artistically Inspired Bespoke Furniture, Lighting & Technology

For many years I have been exploring how craftsmanship, light and artistic inspiration can come together to transform the way we experience spaces.

Those ideas have gradually become a common thread running through much of my work and are now helping shape the next stage of Luminesco. The projects below include both completed commissions and emerging concepts.

Bespoke Entertainment Room

Finished in a rich plum spray lacquer, this bespoke entertainment room was designed around the client's love of entertaining, combining bespoke furniture, integrated lighting, home entertainment and a custom cocktail bar to create a cohesive and highly functional space. Whilst shown here in plum, virtually any colour can be specified to complement the interior and character of the room.

The geometric pattern across the media cabinet was developed specifically for the project, drawing inspiration from the sun and its rays to evoke warmth, energy and connection. The design reflects my belief that furniture can be far more than purely functional, becoming a meaningful expression of the people, stories and spaces it is created to serve.

Alongside the bespoke furniture, the project incorporates a layered lighting scheme featuring decorative lighting, concealed architectural illumination and intelligent scene control, allowing the atmosphere of the room to be transformed to suit different moods and occasions. Together, the furniture, lighting and technology were designed to work as a unified experience rather than as individual elements.

This project demonstrates how bespoke furniture, lighting and technology can be combined to create highly personalised environments that are both beautiful and functional, reflecting the individual lifestyle, interests and aspirations of each client.

The bespoke cocktail bar was designed to complement the unusual angular geometry of the media cabinet, creating a cohesive design language throughout the room. Antique mirrored panels, UV-bonded glass shelving and marble-effect composite surfaces combine to create a striking focal point, adding depth, reflection and a sense of occasion. The result is a highly functional entertaining space that feels both contemporary and inviting.

The first realised freestanding piece from an emerging collection of artistically inspired bespoke illuminated furniture.

Designed to Transform

When closed, the Music Bar sits elegantly within the room as a beautifully crafted piece of furniture. When opened, it reveals a fully integrated DJ and entertainment station designed to transform the atmosphere of a space and create memorable experiences for family, friends and guests

Handcrafted in walnut, the Music Bar transforms from an elegant statement bar and home for a cherished vinyl collection into an immersive entertainment experience.

Combining music, atmosphere, lighting and craftsmanship, it is designed to become the centrepiece of a room while creating unforgettable moments of connection and enjoyment.

Craftsmanship, Materials & Detail

The natural beauty of walnut, carefully selected veneers and refined detailing allow the technology to disappear when not in use.

Every element is carefully considered, balancing craftsmanship, exceptional materials and innovation to create a piece that feels timeless while incorporating contemporary technology.

While this piece embraces a relatively restrained aesthetic, the rear of the cabinet showcases a striking quarter-matched walnut veneer, creating a dramatic diamond pattern within the grain that celebrates the natural beauty of the timber.

Future commissions could explore increasingly expressive applications of book-matched veneers, marquetry, rare and vividly coloured veneers, sculptural forms, liquid metals and decorative finishes. Emerging light-transmitting and translucent materials offer further opportunities to blur the boundary between furniture, lighting and art.

Every commission begins with a conversation. I enjoy researching and exploring new materials, technologies and creative possibilities, often pushing beyond conventional expectations to create something entirely unique and deeply personal to each client.

Lighting as Part of the Experience

Lighting is integrated into the Music Bar from the very beginning, serving both practical and atmospheric purposes.

Discreetly concealed within the cabinet, high-quality warm white lighting illuminates the decks and controls, allowing the DJ to work comfortably without the need for additional lighting while remaining largely hidden from view when experienced from the front of the piece.

Complementing this functional task lighting, music-reactive lighting beneath the cabinet introduces a dynamic visual element that responds to sound and atmosphere, transforming the Music Bar from a beautifully crafted piece of furniture into an immersive entertainment experience.

Together, these lighting layers balance practicality, craftsmanship and atmosphere, creating a piece that is as enjoyable to use as it is to experience.

For more than 25 years, I have been designing bespoke furniture, interiors and lighting for private clients, architects and interior designers. What has always excited me most is the opportunity to take an idea, passion or aspiration and transform it into something truly original — creating pieces and environments that surprise, inspire and always exceed what a client initially imagined possible.

Throughout my career, I have been drawn to the intersection of art, craftsmanship, materials, lighting and technology. Whether designing a bespoke piece of furniture, a media room, a complete interior scheme or detailed layered, scene controlled, lighting design, my aim has always been to create experiences that are not only beautiful and functional, but emotionally engaging and deeply personal.

I am passionate about continually exploring new materials, technologies and creative possibilities. Emerging Collections

The designs shown below offer a glimpse into some of the concepts, collections and creative directions currently being explored through Luminesco Furniture.

Whilst many commissions begin with a client's unique brief, these pieces help illustrate how artistic inspiration, craftsmanship, materials, lighting and technology can come together to create furniture that moves beyond pure function and becomes a highly personal expression of character and creativity.

The Cello Cabinet

Inspired by the elegance, movement and expressive form of the cello, this concept explores the relationship between classical music, furniture and artistic expression. Sculptural forms, flowing curves and carefully considered proportions combine to create a striking statement piece that sits somewhere between functional object, sculpture and art.

Currently represented by an initial design concept and render, the Cello Cabinet offers a glimpse into one of the more ambitious artistic directions being explored through Luminesco Furniture.

The Theatre Collection

Inspired by the rich interiors, craftsmanship and atmosphere of some of the world's most beautiful theatres, this fully realised collection explores dramatic form, rare and coloured veneers, intricate marquetry, decorative metallic detailing and beautifully crafted finishes.

Balancing traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design principles, the collection seeks to combine the warmth and richness of historic theatre interiors with the precision and functionality expected of modern luxury furniture. Detailed designs have already been completed, with elements of the construction and manufacturing process successfully prototyped.
