The Revolution in Fine Art Lighting

Luxury custom framing with perfect front illumination from within. Bring your art and room to life. The Luminesco frame fuses bespoke framing with fine art lighting to become a controllable atmospheric light source from your beautifully illuminated artwork.

We’ve designed a frame that lights art from the frame itself. Perfect front illumination from within!
— Andy Stone - Designer

Each Luminesco frame is bespoke made to complement your artwork, its surroundings and its long-term protection. Available in a wide range of painted and antiqued finishes, as well as gold and platinum leafing, liquid metals and most timbers. Designed and manufactured locally with sustainability in mind.

The evenly diffused art safe low energy LED light we use is of the highest quality available (98CRI), for enhanced vibrance and clarity and comes in a large selection of colour temperatures to be curated to your unique piece. The long lasting light engine can be easily replaced if necessary. Luminesco illuminated paintings with depth and texture are incredible and have to be seen to be believed due to being lit from four sides!

Dimming controlled for optimum viewing and room atmosphere and can be connected to any control system (obviously, not set to flash as above!).

For art sizes from around A2 up to 180cm Square. A Luminesco frame for smaller sizes down to A3 & A4 will be available in the near future.

Whilst illuminated art framing remains at the heart of Luminesco, we now also offer bespoke furniture, lighting design and creative consultancy services.

There’s light and then there’s Luminesco Light!

Conservation & Archival Framing

Archival framing materials & processes adhered to when required promoting the long-term health of an artwork on display by controlling environmental threats to its well-being.

Following are a few basics about our archival process:

Museum Boards

Materials used at Conservation Framing Services—such as museum quality rag mat boards in a variety of widths and natural tones—are designed to protect and preserve your artwork. They are not only acid free but are designed to absorb acid from the art as well as the environment. Photographic work, for example, requires a specially treated museum board, formulated specifically for its photochemical make-up.

Backing Boards

A matted or floated artwork is backed for further protection with an acid free corrugated board or a corrugated plastic board when drastic humidity changes are a concern. It is then sealed with a paper tape, which protects the artwork while allowing an exchange of air.

Hinging

Hinging is the process of attaching works on paper to a backing board, or support, often for the purpose of "floating" the artwork. This is done as an alternative to "over-matting" in which the mat is placed over the artwork. As with the selection of matting and frames, hinging must be tailored to the artwork in question. Depending on the weight of the paper on which the artwork is made, an appropriate hinge is chosen that will support the piece without restricting its natural movement over time. All hinges are made from acid free Japanese papers. Our adhesives are also acid free and reversible.

Glazing

Glazing refers to the use of either glass or acrylic as a practical barrier between your art and the atmosphere in which it is hung. This is necessary because of moisture, smoke, acidic fumes and a host of threatening conditions artwork often faces. Typically, we recommend Tru Vue Optium Museum Acrylic®as detailed above, as it is clear and visually indistinguishable from glass, yet will not break and pose a threat to your safety or that of your artwork. Its Museum quality UV-filtering are recommended for valuable artwork on paper and colour photography and offers anti-reflective and anti-static properties.
